SBA Appraisal & Environmental Analyst

Summary:
The SBA Appraisal and Environmental Analyst is responsible for performing independent reviews and analysis of business valuations supporting SBA and commercial lending activities. This role ensures valuations are reasonable, well-supported, and compliant with SBA SOP and internal credit risk standards.
The position also supports environmental due diligence processes as a secondary function, helping ensure compliance with regulatory and Bank requirements. Serves as a key resource to lenders and credit teams on valuation-related matters.
Job Functions:
- Perform detailed, risk-based reviews of business valuation reports for SBA and commercial loans
- Assess valuation methodologies, financial assumptions, projections, and market data for reasonableness and supportability
- Identify inconsistencies, unsupported assumptions, or elevated risk factors and recommend corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with SBA SOP 50 10 and internal credit policy requirements related to business valuation
- Partner with credit and underwriting teams to support sound lending decisions based on valuation analysis
- Communicate findings clearly through written reviews and direct interaction with stakeholders
- Support the review of real estate appraisals and related collateral valuations as needed
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, including FIRREA and Interagency Appraisal Guidelines
- Coordinate, track, and review environmental due diligence reports (e.g., Phase I/II ESA) to ensure completeness and compliance with internal policies, escalating any identified risks or concerns to appropriate stakeholders
- Assist in maintaining the Bank’s approved vendor panel for valuation and environmental services, including monitoring vendor performance, ensuring report quality, and supporting resolution of valuation and environmental-related issues
- Serve as a subject matter expert to Business Development Officers (BDOs), credit analysts, and underwriting teams, providing guidance on valuation concepts, expectations, and key risk considerations
- Assist in the development and maintenance of valuation and environmental policies and procedures, and support training on internal systems and processes
- Ensure timely completion of valuation and environmental reviews within established service level expectations
- Must complete all required training, including Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-money Laundering training, suitable to their position within the bank
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in business valuation, financial analysis, or SBA lending required
- Direct experience reviewing or preparing business valuations strongly preferred
- Experience with SBA 7(a) and/or 504 loan programs preferred
- Exposure to environmental due diligence processes is a plus
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of business valuation methodologies (income approach, market approach, asset-based approach)
- Ability to analyze financial statements, cash flow, and projections to assess valuation support
- Knowledge of SBA SOP requirements related to valuation and credit underwriting
- Familiarity with appraisal standards and environmental due diligence practices (preferred but not primary)
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, particularly in articulating risk and findings
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Proficiency in Excel and financial analysis tools; experience with valuation or credit systems preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across teams
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Work Arrangement:
- This position is remote.
- Occasional travel may be required for in-person training or meetings.
