Summary: The Controller is responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the Bank’s and Bank Holding Company’s (“the Company”) accounting systems and financial reporting. This position ensures accurate and timely completion of all internal and external reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and regulatory reporting framework.  The Controller has a key leadership role in strategic projects and initiatives and supports the Company’s overall strategic goals through cross-departmental collaboration.  

Compensation is based on geographic location and individual pay decisions will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

 Job Responsibilities:

  • Train, develop and supervise personnel within the Accounting Department.
  • Manages the month-end closing process
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all general ledger, internal account, roll forward and other reconciliations.
  • Perform monthly analysis including variance and cost/profitability analysis.
  • Development of and monitoring of FDICIA internal controls framework.
  • Development of accounting policies and procedures including the monitoring of new accounting pronouncements. 
  • Documentation through a technical accounting memo of non-routine transactions including in depth accounting research relevant to the transaction.
  • Review of various contracts for accounting considerations, primarily ASC 606 – Revenue Recognition.
  • Calculates or reviews calculations of significant estimates and accruals such as allowance for credit losses, fair value measurements, loan sales gains, deferred fees and costs, lease accounting, benefit plan liabilities, revenue recognition, etc.
  • Review income and expense entries for appropriateness and ensure all monthly entries have been made, accrued, or prepaid timely.
  • Oversee daily cash management process.
  • Review and approve invoices and ensure proper oversight and control of the Accounts Payable process
  • Manages tax calculations and estimated tax payments.
  • Preparation of information for audits and examinations by Regulators and Auditors as needed.
  • Preparation of the annual audited financial statements and footnotes.
  • Preparation of external financial reporting including quarterly Call Report and Y9 reporting.
  • Assist the CFO and Director of Finance with periodic analysis of budget variance.
  • Be a leader in continuing process improvement within the Accounting Department and assist cross-departmentally to help other teams in their process improvement goals.
  • Performs other accounting and finance duties as assigned by CFO.
  • Must complete all required training, including Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering training, suitable to their position within the bank.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Economics required
  • MBA or MS in Accounting, or CPA designation preferred
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience with supervisory experience.
  • Banking industry experience required, with knowledge of banking procedures, policies, and regulations governing financial institutions.
  • Public Accounting/CPA firm experience required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with solid verbal and written communication ability.
  • Highly organized with the ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to anticipate and identify complex financial issues.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment where unexpected changes occur.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to see the big picture. 

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
